I believed in homeschooling before my child was born. I was puzzled at the first thought of homeschooling. I thought I could not accomplish homeschooling my daughter. I had many thoughts running through my head that I will fail. I did not think I was skilled enough to homeschool. I thought it would not be a good fit for me. Once I started researching homeschool information I was in shock! The steps to get started is so easy! I homeschool in Kentucky, the requirements are simple. Homeschooling is pretty simple in each state. The only thing that I have found to be a main requirement are the documents.
Homeschooling an only child began unofficially when my daughter was about one year old with fun, educational play. Daily reading, pointing at different objects, numbers, letters so my daughter could get familiar with different things in general. Exploring many different things from the outdoors to different outings. As my daughter grew we started to learn something new each day. I officially started homeschooling when my little one turned 6. I had to send in a Letter of Intent to the Public School system within 10 days of the start of school, explaining I will be homeschooling my daughter. I created my own curriculum. It is a lot of hands on, some from workbook/worksheets and free online educational websites. The only thing that has to be documented in my homeschool is the attendance with the 170 days that are required. I keep all work and show the best items if needed. My daughter will be turning 8 this month. I am on the second year of homeschooling and it has been a success. Our days are relaxed, there is no set time for lessons when they begin or end. The day can involve books, legos, learning shows on tv, conversation and much more. At the first glance when you research homeschooling in your area may seem overwhelming but it is simple when you get a routine in place. It will not happen over night so be patient. Each day is a new day. Don't forget kiddos learn even though you don't think they are learning. My daughter has learning a ton already on her own. I was super surprised! The main thing she has learned on her own it reading. She was able to read on her own around 4. She could read anything no matter if she seen the word before or not. We were puzzled and still are puzzled. She could not spell a lot of words at that time. We thought the general process was spell before you read. Guess that is not the case.
